ANOTHER SUCCESS STORY:
11 DAYS IN AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND.
- The Traveller

Yes, 134 Travel-O-Ganza members are back from an 11-day trip to Down Under, at the other end of the world. They are home this morning, exhausted, but exhilarated. They returned with a trove of pictures to show and dozens of stories to tell, a treasure colossal enough for a lifetime.

It all started on the first day of October. Some flew first class, others flew in coach on Cathay Pacific, and later on Qantas Airlines. In total, they accumulated 61 in-flight hours, 18 hours on airport wait, two passes over the international date line. They traveled 26,618 nautical miles.

They all lodged at 5-star hotels: Intercontinental Sydney, Australia, Cordis in Auckland, New Zealand.

They survived a daily 18-hour shock full schedule, that included 7 daily tours, 3 major excursions. They attended a play at the world-famous Sydney Opera House, a lavish cabaret dinner-show on the world -famous Sydney Harbour Showboat cruise.

They had four dance parties and a magnificent Gala and Award Ceremony. They invited Polynesian and Brazilian dancers for private performances. They walked on the red carpet and visited three museums.

They had an intensive education in History, Geography, Ethnology, and Geopolitics. They discovered the Maori civilization and the Aboriginal culture. Volunteers sat thru 16 educational contact hours (for physicians and nurses).

These were the written goals; they were all reached.

As an add-on, they met old friends and made a dozen cherry-picked new friends. This was priceless!

With indomitable optimism and unassailable cheerfulness, they confronted a few days of uncooperative weather. They put a positive spin on snafus caused providers, such as wrong addresses on the pier, or an airline temporarily unable to locate a traveler’s ticketed reservation to Auckland.

They overcome, with a smile, two restaurants that delivered a low ration of food. They even used a 27-hour flight delay in Sydney as a fodder for more sleeping, partying and networking.

By and large, all the spicy elements (hits and misses) that make a great Dream Trip, delivered on a shoestring budget, over 11 days, were reunited to make this educational, cultural, entertaining endeavor unforgettable.

This morning, our gladiators from Down Under will wake up extenuated and jet-lagged, richer in the knowledge of our planet, of the fate of the Pacific Aborigines, of the dense culture of Australia. They will gather the indelible memories of the breathtaking beauty of New Zealand’s North and South Islands.

They enjoyed a near-perfect trip, only because perfection is never possible. They are already rooting for a new stop on the track of their humanism and on the itinerary of their humanity. Next year, on March 7 they will depart for Brazil. On October 7, 2019, they will gear toward Thailand, the Emerald Isle.
